Kennett's Season Called Due to Weather

Updated: Jul 25, 2019

After winning the Chester County regular season title, Post 491 came up short in the county tournament championship, losing to Concord. But, by winning the regular season, the team got an automatic bid to the PA Regional round held in Upper Perkiomen.

Kennett opened the weekend Regional against Greater Pittston on Saturday. The game was the definition of a pitcher's duel. Vinnie Basciani went 5.2, allowing 2 R (0 of which were earned). Basciani was fantastic. Unfortunately, the Kennett bats couldn't string together any hits and were held scoreless.

This sent the team to an elimination game on Sunday against Hellertown. The bats came alive on Sunday, as Kennett pushed across 13 runs. Jeremy Sauerbaum and Stevie Thomas each had multi hit games. Post 491 would advance by a score of 13-2.

But, storms came rolling in across the region on Monday and Tuesday. Wet field conditions led to an unusual end to the Kennett season. Pressed up against the State Legion Tournament, the tournament directors made the decision to cancel all games and only allowed the two teams who had not lost to play for the title.

It was an unfortunate end to the year. But, the team still had an amazing season. The team finished the regular season 11-4 and finished 3-3 in the post season for a combined record of 14-7. Overall, it was an amazing experience for both the players and coaches.
