Updated: May 21, 2019

Kennett Post 491, coached by the Revolution staff, started off the season with a win tonight in their opening game against Paoli.

Post 491 starter, Vinnie Basciani, was able to work out of a first inning bases load jam with a huge two-out, full count, strikeout. Basciani would go 2 allowing no runs.

The scored held 0-0 until the top of the fourth. Jeremy Sauerbaum lead off the inning with a single. Sauerbaum then stole second. He would then advance to third on a groundout. With two outs, Brennan Smith delivered a huge hit to score Sauerbaum giving Post 491 a 1-0 lead.

Alex Wisniewski took over on the mound in the third, and he was dealing. He went two innings striking out three and inducing a huge 4-6-3 double play in the fourth.

Basciani would get the fifth inning going with a leadoff single. He would then steal second. Grant Hineman executed a perfect bunt that would not only advanced Basciani, but also land Hineman on first. A Wisniewski ground out would score Basciani, and Hineman would advance to third. Sauerbaum then plated another run with a single. Nate Holt then had a huge single that scored two more, leaving the score 5-0 in favor of Post 491.

But Paoli was not backing down. A few walks allowed Paoli to tie things up in the fifth. And with the sun going down, the game headed into the sixth and final inning all knotted at 5-5.

A costly Paoli error allowed the leadoff man, Connor Brookes, to reach for Post 491. Brookes immediately stole second, and Owen Gieger laid down a perfect sac bunt, advancing Brookes to third. A strikeout and two walks later left the bases loaded with two out. Wisniewski came up with a huge single that scored two to break the tie. Another walk would load the bases again, this time for Thomas. Thomas launched a bomb to left that cleared the bases for a Grand Slam and blew the game wide open.

Holt closed the door on Paoli in sixth and Post 491 came away with an 11-8 win.

Post 491 was impressive, only allowing 3 hits on the day. Sauerbaum, Basciani, and Holt each had multi hit games. Jeremy Sauerbaum, Basciani, and Nathaniel Holt each racked up multiple hits while Thomas and Wisniewski lead the way with 4 and 3 RBIs, respectively. Sauerbaum would also score 3 Rs.

The two teams are it again tomorrow night. Game time is 6pm at Kennett High School.
